Sympathy Card

Monday, August 26, 2013
This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is Get Well/Sympathy.  I decided to make a sympathy card.  LIfe has been beyond busy for me lately.  In addition to my regular position at the local college where I work, I've been offered two courses to teach.  As the courses are online, everything needs to be ready to go by this coming Friday!  I've been burning the candle at both ends but am incredibly excited by this new venture.  Anyway, the brief periods of time in my craft room are certainly a blessing amid the chaos!!

I used a  sketch I found on Pinterest for the layout of my card and this helped things come together quite quickly for me.  I'm a very slow crafter - and this card took under an hour to create (which is speedy for me)! For the most part, I simply cut papers in various sizes, embossing one of the panels and inking everything.  I used the My Craft Spot 4" Doily metal die to cut a dictionary page and layered it underneath a Wild Orchid Crafts rose, some My Craft Spot Vintage Vanilla crinkle ribbon tied in a double bow and my sentiment panel.

The beautiful sentiment is from My Craft Spot's With Deepest Sympathy stamp set.  I used a Spellbinders die to cut it out - and it looked as though the die was made for the sentiment!  I was so excited with how they worked together so perfectly!

Don't forget about the My Craft Spot Fall Stamp Release Party coming up next week!  Here's the Stamp Release Party Button.  Post it on your blog to spread the word!  In fact, once you've posted it, head back to My Craft Spot to let Kimberly know you've done so for your chance to win the Spooky Treats stamp set!!

16th Birthday Card

Tuesday, August 20, 2013
I'm delighted to be sharing a card creation at My Craft Spot today - and am posting it here on my blog as well.  My middle guy turned 16 a couple of weeks ago and this is the card I made for him.  My son was quite excited to wake up on his birthday to realize that he's now taller than his dad!!

I used Cricut Craft Room Basics to cut 16 number 16s and arranged them to create a large 16!!  (I do this by hand on the inside of my children's birthday cards each year and spell their names on the envelope using the numbers of their new age too.)  To create the border, I used a Stampin' Up punch layered with a strip of white paper.  I topped this with some Cherry Red baker's twine from My Craft Spot.  I then used Tickets metal dies to cut the two little tickets hanging from the twine.

To embellish the tickets, I used My Craft Spot's Small Alphabet metal dies for the h, b and u.  (I used Cricut Craft Room Basics for the number 2.)  I then topped the tickets with two star shapes, also from the Small Alphabet metals dies set.  I finished everything off with a shiny star gem from my stash.

Did you know there is an AMAZING My Craft Spot Gallery?  Click HERE to visit the gallery for tons of inspriation and ideas using all the My Craft Spot stamps and metal dies.

Have a fabulous day!!

MCS Colour Challenge

Monday, August 12, 2013
We're having a colour challenge at My Craft Spot this week.  We've been away quite a bit over the past two weeks so I've had minimal crafting time between camping trips and a visit from my cousin from England, but did find time between laundry cycles to create!!

First of all, here's the colour challenge:
You are free to use any or all of the colours above!

And here's what I created:

To put my card together, I cut a few layers of paper, embossing them with a Stampin' Up chevron folder.  I then used Going Places for the car.  An EK Success punch was used for the border with some Blueberry baker's twine from My Craft Spot layered on top.

To create the sentiment "sun", I used My Craft Spot's Lacy Banner's metal dies, stamping the white layer with a circle from Postage Stamps and a sentiment from Tiny Tags. (Both stamp sets are from My Craft Spot)

Currently, I don't have a craft room as everything is packed up as we get our floors redone.  This wouldn't be too bad as we've been away so much.  (In fact, this post is pre-scheduled as we will be in Niagara Falls by the time you read it!!  I've got another cousin visiting from England so we are seeing the sites!!)  I'm hoping that I'll have my craft room back in order by the weekend.  I'm back to work next week so will need some "me" time too.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see the rest of the colour challenge creations - and to link up your own project for a chance to win this week's prize!
