Popsicle Cards

Monday, June 18, 2012
Although today is a bit cool and wet here in central Ontario, we've had a few very hot and humid days - and are in for some more.  My youngest has been asking for some frozen treats to help cool down and, as this week's challenge at My Craft Spot is all about Cool Treats, I couldn't help but use popsicles as my inspiration.

I created these 3x3 cards using some fun, bright cardstock.  The popsicles were cut with Just Because Cards and stamped with little faces from Peachy Keen.  I then coated them with Glossy Accents.  The side border of the card base was punched with a Stampin' Up border punch and I used the same punch for the bright borders across the cards.  The top mat was run through my Cuttlebug using the Tiny Hearts folder.

For each card, I stamped a sweet little sentiment from My Craft Spot's Inside & Out - Set#2, using punches from Marvy (for the white circle) and EK Success (for the coloured scalloped circles).  I finished things off with some cheery baker's twine from My Craft Spot, attaching little bows to the base of each popsicle.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to check out the rest of the Cool Treats created by the talented design team.  Then take a break from the heat to create your own project to link up for this week's challenge.  Stay cool!!

Tea Bag Holder - and a sale!

Thursday, June 14, 2012
Last night, I attended a Stampin' Up crafting class.  I really couldn't afford the time and yet the fellowship and craftiness was certainly good for my spirits and I feel a sense of renewal as I hit the books again today.

We made a number of cards, as well as this fun tea bag holder.  In fact, this holder could be used for a variety of small gifts - like gift cards or even bits of individually wrapped chocolate.  At the class, all the materials that we used were from Stampin' Up - but when I got home, I changed the front to a tiny sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set from My Craft Spot.  (The faux stitched border on the tag is from the same stamp set.) I added a little flower eyelet from my stash and finished things off with some Mandarin baker's twine, also from My Craft Spot.

Did you know that there's a sale going on at My Craft Spot?  From now until Monday, when you purchase four stamp sets at regular price, Kimberly will throw in a fifth set (of your choice) for just one penny!  You can read all the details of the sale HERE and then choose your stamp sets from Kimberly's shopping page.  What a great way to build your stamp collection!

Father's Day Card

Monday, June 11, 2012
There's a Father's Day theme at both My Craft Spot and Fantabulous Cricut this week.  As I don't have a father, I made this card for my children to give my husband.

I used Campin' Critters for the card base and the deer.  The grass is from Zooballoo and the sign is from Freshly Picked.  I've had Freshly Picked for about 18 months and only JUST took it out of the packaging last week.  It's one of those cartridges that I purchased as it was a good deal but didn't really have a use for it.  Oh well!  It worked perfectly for the sign on this card.  I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the sign and grass.

The sentiment on the sign is from My Craft Spot's Build a Valentine set and the DAD border is from My Craft Spot's Tiny Tags.  I also added a bit of vintage baker's twine (also from My Craft Spot) for the fish line.  I finished things off with some inking, brads, doodling and fun googly eyes.

Please head over to My Craft Spot and Fantabulous Cricut to check out the rest of the amazing projects, get more details on these challenges, and then link up a project of your own!

Card for my Niece

Monday, June 4, 2012
This week's Birthday - What's Your Age challenge at My Craft Spot is just perfect timing for me as my niece will be celebrating a birthday next week.  The requirements for the challenge are to create a birthday card with a number.  (Do make sure your project is new for this challenge. No back-linking, please.)

I used Elegant Edges, Alphalicious and Christmas Solutions to create my card base, using the shadow feature for the number "10".  I then cut out the number "10" using the regular feature.  The sweet little bear is from Christmas Solutions.  I inked everything and added some punched flowers (layered) and some pretty pearls.  Everything is inked!  I also did some faux stitching around the numbers and on the bear and added a bow using Petal Pink crinkle ribbon from My Craft Spot.  The bear's nose and eyes are tiny black gems.  The fun little tag is from My Craft Spot's Tiny Tags set and HUGS! is from My Craft Spot's Sweet Sentiments - Set #1.

Here's a little tip:  When using crinkle ribbon on smaller cuts, roll the ribbon before tying a bow.  Your roll can be as loose or as tight as you'd like it to be. This helps the ribbon look more proportional to the cut.

For the inside of the card, I cut a smaller layer of the Elegant Edges mat and inked the edges.  A fitting sentiment from My Craft Spot's Birthday Wishes stamp set was added too.

There are some fabulous creations by the rest of the design team at My Craft Spot.  Be sure to head over and check them out - and then link up your own What's Your Age birthday project.

PS  Just an update on my thesis:  I'm still writing away!!  It's a busy, busy time but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of this journey!  This has been a dream of mine for quite some time so it's very exciting to be so close to the end.
