It's Your Birthday

Monday, May 20, 2013
It's a holiday here in Canada (Victoria Day) and I'm thrilled to have a day off!  The past few weeks have been especially busy.  We've been away the last three weekends and I've been out of town for various PD events with work two weeks in a row.  It's GOOD to be home!

This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is Ribbon & Twine.  Here's a chance to dress up your cards!

I made this set for a friend of my middle guy. When Cricut had their "link your Gypsy to Cricut Craft Room" promotion earlier this month, I took advantage of the $20 gift card that came along with it and purchased the digital version of Live Simply.  The little turtle and frame are on that cartridge.  I used a variety of embossing folders on my card and gift card holder too.

I layered my doily on some fabulous Caribbean crinkle ribbon and Strawberry Cupcake baker's twine from My Craft Spot.  The little doily on my card was created with the My Craft Spot Tiny Doilies metal dies set and stamped with a sentiment from the Stampin' Around Spring stamp set.  All the Stampin' Around sets from My Craft Spot are designed to fit the Tiny Doilies metal dies.  They're so pretty and can be used in so many ways!  I punched a little flower and added a gem for the middle of mine but there are also a variety of fantastic little images on the Stampin' Around sets that could be used too.

The sentiment on the gift card holder is from My Craft Spot's Sweet Sentiments Set #1.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see the rest of the creations by the design team.  You've got a week to link up your Ribbon & Twine project to be eligible to win this week's prize.

Mother's Day Card

Monday, May 6, 2013
Happy Monday!  Life has been incredibly busy with my daughter home for a week following her final exams.  As she is heading back to the city to work for the summer, I spent every moment I could with her.  Much of that meant shopping!  It was lovely to have her home a bit and I wish it could have been longer.

Having children makes me appreciate my own mother even more.  I have been incredibly blessed with the gift of my own mum and am so thankful for her.  Even though I am one of five, my mum always had time for me and I was always very secure in the knowledge of her unconditional love for me.  The card I made today is for her.

This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is "Mom".  I used a number of the NEW My Craft Spot products to create my card.  It's a bit larger than usual at 7x4.5 but I wanted to take full advantage of the new Tickets metal dies, using both sizes as a border of sorts on my card.  I first cut the larger tickets (a row of 3 measuring approximately 6x1) and stamped them with an outline and a flourish, both stamps from the NEW Tickets stamp set.  I then cut the smaller tickets in pink using another die (a row of 5 measuring approximately 5.5x0.5).  I used the Tickets stamp set for the outline and then used a little flourish from the NEW Postage Stamps stamp set.  The flourish is the same as the one on the Tickets set, only smaller.  How fun is that?!

For my round MUM tags, I used the My Craft Spot Tiny Doilies metal dies and then stamped them with letters from Chunky Alphabet.  They are attached with PopDots for added dimension.  Everything was layered on top of some white lace and a white doily, which I had inked.  (In fact, everything on this card has been inked quite a bit.)  The doily was positioned over some My Minds Eye paper, the edges of which I had distressed and around which I added some stitching.

To finish off my card, I added some beautiful flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts, a metal butterfly (also from Wild Orchid Crafts) and some little pearls from my stash.  I love the way the card turned out and I can't wait to give it to my mum!

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see what the rest of the design team has created.  You then have a week to link up your own "Mom" project to be eligible to win this week's prize.
