Happy Birthday - Gromit Card

Wednesday, March 27, 2024
Goodness gracious, it's the final Wednesday of March. We thought spring had arrived here in Central Ontario, Canada (in fact, it was a mostly spring-like winter this year) but Mother Nature played some cruel jokes on us last week! We had a few days of snow, including a nasty storm on Friday. However, the snow has all melted again and I even noticed a couple of my daffodils just starting to poke up through the soil.

Janice is hosting our Little Red Wagon challenge this week and she's all about "Animal Antics". Basically, include an animal on your project and you're good to go!

My younger brother's birthday is next month and I've made this card for him. He loves Gromit (from Wallace and Gromit) and also loves his cups of tea each day. When I saw the Wallace and Gromit stamp set I used here (which came free in a magazine), I thought of David right away and the unnecessary purchase was made. When he was first married, their first dog was named Gromit. Actually, his name was Comet at the rescue but they immediately changed it to Gromit!

I had a very difficult time photographing the card due to the glittery paw-print hearts panel but trust me when I tell you there are some embossed teapots and such on the right side. I was tempted to use a "Yappy Birthday" sentiment but decided against it due to the fact that Gromit is an incredibly quiet dog. Sometimes, these sorts of things matter in this head of mine!

Please head over to Little Red Wagon to see what the rest of the Girlfriends have created. We'd love to see your Animal Antics creations too!

Amazing, marvellous grace

Wednesday, March 20, 2024
Chrissy is our talented hostess at Little Red Wagon this week and she's looking for florals. You can do anything you like, as long as you include a flower or two - or more!

This time of year is important in the Anglican tradition as it's the period of Lent. Although I'm typically far more of a spiritual person than a religious person, I do become religious at Lent. This year, I've given up cream which is something I love (whipped cream on my lattes, ice cream, Irish cream, etc.). I decided I could still use hand cream though. I have no plans to ingest it. Anyway, this scripture page was made last year during my time of Lent as my word of focus was "grace". I wish marvellous was spelled correctly though. *sigh*

Please head over to Little Red Wagon to see what the rest of the Girlfriends are doing with florals. We'd love for you to join in as well!

God Cares for the Sparrow (and Budgie)

Wednesday, March 13, 2024
Happy Wednesday! It's Imke's turn to host this week's challenge and Little Red Wagon and she's calling out, "Easy Peasy". She's looking for CAS projects.

Unfortunately, my son's budgie passed away a couple of weeks ago. His birds are like his kids and he takes such good care of them. I saved one of Sky's little feathers and created this very simple card which I tucked in a glass frame. I printed off the text, cut the card to size, cut a heart using a punch and then attached the little feather on the heart. My son placed the frame on his desk.

There is a verse in the Bible about God caring for the sparrow which is why the card starts with a sparrow and then adds for the budgie too. I trust that God doesn't mind me changing things up a bit with holy scripture.

Truth be told, when I first made the little card-in-frame for him, Jack returned it to me and told me that he wasn't sure whether or not to say anything but decided he would. I'd put the year as 2022!! I have no idea what was going on in my brain that I entered the text, centred it, made sure I liked the positioning of everything, printed it, looked it over, cut to size and then added to the frame AND took a photo, all the while never realizing I was off by a couple of years. Anyway, I'm back to the present now!!

Please head over to Little Red Wagon to see the CAS creations made by the rest of the Girlfriends. It would be great to have you join us too!

I Didn't Planet That Way

Wednesday, March 6, 2024
How is it already Wednesday again? And how is it March? The days, weeks and months seem to be flying by.

I'm this week's hostess at Little Red Wagon and I'm continuing with my Def Leppard-inspired challenges for 2024. This time, it's "Foolin'" and I'm looking for projects with puns, jokes, funnies, etc.

I put my card together using Lawn Fawn's Year Eleven stamps and dies which I received as part of a grab bag purchase from Simon Says Stamp a year or two ago. I've not used this set before but had it in mind when I chose this challenge. One of the planets was hand created with a circle die and then a hat from another Lawn Fawn set, Year Four (Hippo Birdie). The background was made with a variety of distress inks and then cut from a no-brand die. It's popped on the card although difficult/impossible to tell in the photo.

Please head over to Little Red Wagon for some more smiles, chuckles and laughs! I'd love for you to join the fun too. I always love a good pun, joke or anything else that will bring a smile to my face!
