Welcome to the Autism Awareness Blog Hop!
We are so glad you are joining us!!
We are so glad you are joining us!!
The cause of this Blog Hop is very near and dear to all of us, and we all need to be aware that Autism is rapidly increasing in numbers in our children. Current statistics indicate that 1 in every 100 children is diagnosed with autism. Autism is a neurological disorder that typically presents during the first three years of life, affecting one's ability to communicate and interact with others.
Today, on the 4th Annual World Autism Awareness Day, we are joining prominent buildings across North America and the world — including the Empire State Building in New York City and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada — who will turn their lights blue to raise awareness for autism and to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day. Light it up Blue is aiming to light the world blue all throughout April — city by city, town by town — by taking action to raise autism awareness in our communities. Help us LIGHT it up BLUE this month!
If you have already started the blog hop, you should have arrived here from Marianne's blog - Paper or Fabric Crafter. If not, please feel free to start at the beginning of the hop at Pink Cricut.

As my regular followers know, my son has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Fortunately, as my husband and I are both teachers, we knew the signs of autism and were able to get him the support and help he needs. This has not come without its challenges though, and the journey has been painful at times, especially with respect to rejection from others. However, with a change in schools two years ago, our son has come a long way and we are so thankful for the support given to him and to us as parents. Our son is a treasure with many, many gifts. There is something big in store for him in this life and there is a special purpose just for him. I am blessed to be his mother and cannot imagine life without my precious little guy. Although I wish I could take away his struggles, I would never want to change who he is.
Today we will attend our local Autism Association's World Autism Awareness Celebration. For this celebration, I made a candy jar using My Community, Mickey Font, Alphalicious and my Cuttlebug.
I am DELIGHTED to have TWO sponsors for this blog hop!
Kimberly from My Craft Spot has very generously donated 5 spools of Bakers Twine and a set of Crinkle ribbon for me to pass along to one lucky blog hopper. I have made a few projects using Crinkle Ribbon which you can view here, here and here. It is wonderful to work with! It's so easy to order from My Craft Spot and Kimberly is quick to ship. You can choose from a variety of baker's twine and hand-dyed Crinkle Ribbon. Plus, shipping to anywhere in Canada and the US is FREE!! Here are a few of Kimberly's projects:
I'm also thrilled to be giving away TWO Cricut for Beginners DVDs, generously donated by Cricut for Beginners. The DVD lessons are geared to a variety of learning styles and contain information on every feature of your Cricut machine, with each lesson clearly laid out and functions applied multiple times to help you master skills. Whether you are just starting out or skilled at using your Cricut, there is information in these lessons for you! In addition to the Cricut tutorials, Cricut for Beginners contains numerous bonus features - including over 50 project "cheat sheets" - complete with .cut and .gypsy files!!

1 – 200 of 249 Newer› Newest»What a blessing that both you and your husband were quick to recognize the symptoms of autism. I am always amazed by those parents with autistic children. Such strength that they show outwardly, yet inside they are being torn apart by a disease process that we can't fully understand. Bless you for your support of Autism awareness.
Very nice project in honor of the Autism Awareness you did a great job tfs. Sorry it post 2x.

I am a new follower & am glad to have found your blog. I too have a child with Autism...
Thank you for posting this. I have a 4 year old daughter that was diagnosed super early at only 13 1/2 months with severe Autism & because of the early help we were able to give her while I say she will always have her special ways of doing some things and always have Autism, she is living a normal life and has normal friends and is doing things I was always afraid she would never be able to do. My daughter received tons of therapy, which she has now graduated from, but is also on a very strict GFCF diet which has totally saved her life. I would love to win this. I did recently hear of twine, but have not had the opportunity to it out yet. Also, I have a Cricut, but I tell you that I know it does a lot of fancy things that I haven't begin to understand and even more so as my scrapbook time is limited since my daughter keeps me so busy. Thank you for being part of this hop and bringing more awareness for Autism.
Your candy jar turned out great!

Love your candy jar!!! What a great use for those oldies but goodies cartridges!
Thanks for the chance to win this CD's I can really use them. Oh Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This touches my heart. Our 6 year old grandson has Aspergers we just found out about three months ago. We have known for about 4 years that there was something wrong but his mother didn’t want to find out. But she went to a family reunion and her sister is a nurse and she took her aside and told her it wasn’t her fault. BUT we must help Jacob so get him tested. They did and this boy is so loving and gentle and carring, a differentic from day and night. He is very loving and doesn’t act out anymore. He still don’t like changes, large group of people in one place. Everything has it place and we don’t change that. This is a cause close to my heart.
Thank you so much Sarah for another chance to win. This win would be for Jacob.
Sincerely

Great project Kate! i am so glad you all are doing this hop to raise awareness for autism. My 9 yo nephew was recently diagnosed with autism and I am woefully ignorant of the specifics. I am so grateful for all of the links. My daughter has been in school with 2 boys with Aspergers. I feel fortunate to have known these 2 boys. They are both wonderful kids. Our elementary school staff was so supportive to the families and the boys although I know some of the other kids were mean. My daughter thankfully befriended and defended them both. I am so glad that your son is doing well and that you knew the signs early on. I think that is so important. Thanks for sharing with us about your struggles.

What a great reason for a hop. Love your projects.
Love the fact that this hop is making so many people aware of the different sides of Autism. I was first exposed to autism 40 years ago when a new friend took me home to meet her family. Her younger brother who was 7 at the time was autistic, this influenced my joining YARC (yah way back it was Youth Association for Retarted children) and now I work in an outpatient mental Health clinic where we see all forms of this in children and grown ups.

I would like to thank you, and the other ladies participating, for bringing this awareness campaign to the forefront. We so often forget what others might be going through when our own problems try bringing us down. But, by praying for others, we also help ourselves by understanding we are not alone in struggles. Our children though, oh what we would do to help them - Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for spreading the word about autism! I have a 34yo cousin who is autistic, and it's surprising how many children are diagnosed today. Early identification is key and can really make a big difference...because as you know, that child grows up and has to deal with special issues throughout his/her lifetime.
I'm glad that your son is making progress - how lucky for him that you are his parents and can advocate for him- and of course you are also blessed to have him in your life.
It's not about the prizes, so I appreciate your offering up some. Best wishes to you and your family!

I myself have a daughter with autism PPD-NOS and by catching the no talking after 9 months and going thru a speech therapist and getting into a early intervention program at 1 1/2 years old, and continuing at a local school when she turned 3 and omg ...early intervention WORKS!!!!! if you suspect anything is wrong please call your pediatrician to start the steps..it takes a while to get started but my little girl now will be 4 in Sept ..is talking up a storm, just got potty trained and making so much progress..she now knows her alphabet and can count to like 17..I thank God everyday that I noticed the stacking, spinning in circles, temperament changes, and non talking to get her help. sorry to ramble but I hope someone who know someone with a child like this...catching early is the KEY!!!

The candy jar is wonderful, as is your participation in this hop to raise awareness. I wish all kids on the spectrum were lucky enough to have parents like you that recognize the signs and spring into action, rather than bury their head in the sand.
Great candy jar and I love your cards you made. Thank you for sharing your story of Autism and for your generous blog candy.
What a great project, and what a wonderful thing all you beautiful ladies are having this hop in honor of!!! My hats off to you all!!!
Awesome candy jar you made!! Thanks for sharing your story! Awareness is so very important. My DH is a Special Olympic Coach over 12 yrs. He works with many young adults on the spectrum.
Thanks for the chance to win your blog candy!!

great projects.. thanks for sharing your story!! i'm a special education teacher who has several students with autisim. One just recently diagnosed and i know how hard it is for the parents. Just know we are here for the students and parents and its just a challenge for us as well.. but by working together we can make it so much better for the child!!

Thank you so much for sharing with us through this blog hop. I had no idea that it was so prevalent among children these days and it's wonderful to see so many ladies be so positive about the difficulties life has thrown at them :)
I became a follower - and thanks for the link to twine with free shipping to Canada!!!
